Douglas spent well over three decades serving as a firefighter, a career that took him to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York, before concluding his career at Fort Campbell Army Base in Kentucky. His commitment to protecting others was evident throughout his extensive service, showcasing an unwavering dedication to his profession.

In addition to his firefighting career, Douglas proudly served four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, an experience that shaped his character and fortified his resilience.

Beyond his professional life, Douglas held a variety of interests that brought him joy. He was passionate about shooting skeet and enjoyed working with his hands, activities that allowed him to engage with the world around him in meaningful ways.

Douglas is survived by his beloved daughters, Jennie Thompson and Rhonda, who will carry forward his legacy of compassion and dedication. He is also remembered by his siblings: Julie, Verna, Linda, Larry, and Jane, who will forever cherish the memories they created together.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary F. Thompson, who was the cornerstone of his life, and his parents, Gordon K. Thompson and Faye Staring Thompson, who laid the foundation for the values he carried into adulthood.

Douglas James Thompson will be remembered not only for his contributions as a firefighter and military veteran but also for his loving spirit and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Gateway Christian Church, 781 Windermere Dr., Clarksville, Tennessee.
