Donald Bernard McMillan, Major United States Air Force Retired, 86, Erin, died Friday, August 10,2007, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia,Tn.. The funeral will be held at 10am Monday at Erin United Methodist Church with Rev.Harriet Bryan Harris officiating. Burial will be in McMillan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm till 8pm with a Masonic Service at 7pm Sunday and from 8am till service Monday at Erin United Methodist Church.
Nave Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Shirley Jeanne Lovell McMillan.A native of Erin,Tennessee.Mac was born on April 16,1921 to James Leo McMillan and Florence Kingmill McMillan McAskill.Following his graduation from Houston County High School in 1938,he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp(CCC)until he enlisted in the U.S.Army in 1943 where he served as an officer in the Army Signal Corps.In 1946, he re-enlisted in the U.S.Air Force where he served as a Radar Officer in the Panama Canal Zone,Korea, Japan and Alaska,plus numerous assingments in the Continental United States.He retired from the Air Force in 1963 with the rank of Major.Following his retirement from the Air Force he returned to the family farm in Erin that he purchased prior to his retirement.In 1964, he was appointed Postmaster at the US Post Office in Erin,Tennessee.He served inthis position until his retirement at the age of 65 in 1986. Mr.McMillan is survived by his daughtes Judy(Dr.Thomas)Dake of Columbia,Tennessee.Bonnie McMillan Newberry of Erin,Tennessee.and Tucson,Arizona.and Geni(Randall)McMasters of San Francisco,California,Additionally,Mr McMillan is survived by sisters Betty (late Gene)Barnes of Erin,Tennessee,Bernice ( late Edwin)Sykes of Steele, Alabama;Mary Catherine Ward of Old Hickory,Tennessee and Minnie (Lloyd) Travis of Goodlettsville,Tennessee a brother, Robert (Gennie )McAskill of Cumberland City,Tennessee;grandchildren Amanda Dake(Christopher)Rowley of Dallas,Texas,Nathan(Valerie)Newberry of Erin,Tennessee,Allyson Dake(John) Kingston of New York,New York,Lesley McMasters(Sasha)Wann of Erin,Tennessee.and Holleigh McMasters of San Francisco,California;and great-grandchildren Skyeler McMasters,Airebelle McMasters, Aidan Newberry, Thomas Rowley and Adam Wann.Mr.McMillan is also survived by Carolyn Mitchell of Tucson,Arizona,a special friend of the family. Pallbearers will be Robert(Bobby)McAskill,Dr.Thomas Dake, Randall McMasters, Nathan Newberry, Christopher Rowley and Jock Barnes.
