Donald Cooksey

Donald Edward Cooksey was born March 4, 1937 in Erin, TN, to Hilda Cooksey Askew.

He Departed this life on Friday February 19, 2021 in Erin, Tn. He was Baptized at an early age at Little Rock Baptist Church and remained a member until his death. He was one of the many hands helping build LRMBC.
He attended Hensley Jr. High School and graduated from Burt High School in Clarksville, TN with the class of 1957. He also attended Kentucky State College for two years. He was a Military Veteran of the United States Army.

In 2011, he was served as the Lord High Mayor for the Houston County Irish Day Celebration. He was a member of the American Legion post 226 for 50 years, and was also a member of Lonestar Mason Lodge #15 for 53 years.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Elsia Dunlap Cooksey, son; Donnie Cooksey, mother; Hilda Cooksey Askew, and Stepfather; Howard Askew Jr.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving sons; Jeff Cooksey (Lisa), Troy Cooksey (Bonnie), Chris Cooksey, and John Turner (Tina). He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren; Kymani Cooksey, Erik Cooksey, Brittney Cooksey, Erica Willis, and Jaquel Cooksey. He will be missed by his beloved brothers; Thruman Askew, of Erin, TN, Clifford (Nat) Askew of Abilene, TX, as well as his loving sisters; Dephia M. Baker of Nashville, TN, and Carlene C. Harris of Nashville, TN. He also leaves behind a whole host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to two devoted cousins Jackie Parchman and Willie Bear Ramey for all their help and love. He was loved by so many along with three devoted friends Veronica Edwards, Joe Louis Thomas, and Dickey Marable.
