Don Edward Mitchell

Don Edward Mitchell – Age 83 of Nashville, TN. Don joined his Heavenly Father Monday, January 13, 2025, after battling dementia. He is now talking with, laughing with, and enjoying the company of his many friends and loved ones that are no longer with us. Don was born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee on April 15, 1941, to Pauline and G. Wilson Mitchell of Dickson, Tennessee. He graduated from Dickson High School in 1959, where he met his wife, Joyce. Don and Joyce were married on June 29, 1962. He was a faithful member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church for 46 years. Don loved playing baseball and softball, participating in the Men's Club at Hillcrest, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities. Don started his career selling insurance with Tennessee Farm Bureau in Erin and Columbia and worked with Corroon & Black in Nashville.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Holland Mitchell. He is survived by his sons, Brad (Jennifer) Mitchell and Darren (Heather) Mitchell; daughters, Donna Barker and Allison (Jeff) Carter; eight grandchildren, Joseph Clark, Lynn (Ashley) Mitchell, Chad Barker, Ethan Mitchell, Ryan Barker, Avanell Mitchell, Makena Carter, and Wilson Mitchell, and two brothers, Johnny (Linda) Mitchell and Scott Mitchell. In addition to his immediate family, Don was a father figure to many others, including Michael Allgood.
Don was also preceded in death by his parents, G. Wilson and Pauline Smith Mitchell.
Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. (visitation Monday 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.) at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 5852 Nolensville Road. Burial to follow at Christ Church Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution be made to The Pavilion Senior Living in Smyrna or Hillcrest United Methodist Church's General Fund.
