David Lee Skelton, age52, passed from this life on August 26, 2021 at his home in Erin, TN. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Chapel of Nave Funeral Home in Erin, Tn. Burial will follow in Dortch’s Chapel Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service on Saturday.
David entered this life on April 11, 1969 and departed his life on August 26, 2021. He was the son of the late Annie Skelton and the late Watson Thomas Sr.
As a child David attended Dortch’s Chapel CME Church with his family, which his grandfather the Rev. Conway Skelton pastored for many years. Later in his adulthood he joined Dortch’s Chapel CME Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Donna Hyde on June 10, 2018 and was baptized on September 9, 2018 at the White Oak Creek along with Mike Dortch, Keven Caldwell, John Gant who were also members at the church. When he joined the church he told Rev. Hyde he didn’t want to be just a member, he came to walk for the Lord and he did that. He, along with others, worked tirelessly with renovations of the church by scraping and painting the ceiling and walls, installing siding, reworking the vestibule and bathrooms and other repairs of the church building and grounds. He was also a trustee at the church an Vice President of the Men’s Ministry.
David received his education in the Stewart County School system at Dover Elementary and he was a graduate of Stewart County High School in Dover, TN. He worked a number of jobs, including; working at the Steward County Highway Department, Trane Company, Dover Products and CIG to name a few.
He leaves to mourn his memory his son Darius Skelton, and grandchildren Drigne Lindsey, Dextyn Slelton and Lynx Skelton; brothers Renzie Skelton, Wilbur Carr, Michael (Gina) Thomas, Watson Thomas Jr., George Kevin (Sylvia) Thomas; sisters Rev. Freda (Rev. Carmichael) Crutchfield, Addie (Johnny) Smith, Jewel (Tommy) Robinson, Virgina (Fasil) Alim and a very devoted bonus mother, Willine Thomas Austin who loved and treated him like she treated her own birth children; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends and two very special friends in Mike Dortch and Kevin Caldwell.
