It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David E. Dunlap Sr (68), who passed away on May 9, 2023, at his home in Cumberland City, Tennessee. He was a devoted husband, father, and respected member of the community.
David was born on September 23, 1954, in Houston County, Tennessee, to Lottie C. Dunlap and Herbert W. Dunlap. He grew up in Cumberland City and attended W.T. Thomas Elementary and High School. After graduating high school, David went on to work as a boilermaker and later served as a First Responder and a Captain with the Volunteer Fire Department where he made a significant impact and was admired by his colleagues.
David was a loving husband to his wife Belinda A. Dunlap and a devoted father to his four children: Melissa (Mike Cross) Dunlap, Karen (Annie) Dunlap, Kimberly Dunlap, and David Jr. (Renee) Dunlap. He is also survived by his siblings Kenneth (Bessie) Dunlap, Rebecca (Dwight) Woodard, Patricia Tyler, and Hattie Cooksey, as well as 11 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of family friends. His late siblings include: Croda Dunlap, Eddie Dunlap, Clemmie Dunlap, Mary Dunlap, Elsie Cooksey, Emma Harris, and Pearl Nelson.
David was a dedicated community member who always put others before himself. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was known for his kind heart and warm personality. His loss is felt deeply by his family, who will always cherish his memory and keep him close to their hearts.
Visitation hours will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 12, 2023, at Griffin's Chapel Church of the Nazarene, followed by funeral services on May 13, 2023 with Bro. Justin Warren officiting, with visitations before the service starting at 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the same location. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland City Volunteer Fire Department, 401 Conger Street, Cumberland City, TN, 37050 in memory of David.
Rest in peace, David E. Dunlap Sr. Your legacy and impact on the community will never be forgotten, and you will always be remembered as a beloved husband, father, and community member.
