CSM (Ret) David Patton Barber, age 78, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Tennessee State Veterans’ Home.
David entered into this life on July 10, 1940 in Greenwood, TX son of the late Edith and Bert Barber. He was a 1958 graduate of Brock School. After thirty years of service, David retired from the United States Army. During his time of service, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Overseas Service Bars-2, Overseas Service Ribbon-8, Meritorious Service Medal with Second Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Service Ribbon, and an Army Achievement Medal. David was also awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal-10, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Republic Vietnam Citizen Action Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Legion of Merit. After retirement from the military, he was the owner and operator of David’s Home Improvement in Lawton, OK.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Winburn Barber.
Survivors include his loving wife, Celine Goldrick Barber; daughters, Deborah (Gerry) Hailey, and Shari Skaggs; brothers, Charles and Ted Barber; sister, Mary Puyear; grandchildren, January Lynn Skaggs, Amanda (Curtis) Johnson, Ashley West, Theresa (Charley) Grubbs, Madison Hailey, MacKenzie Hailey, and Sarah Prater; great-grandchildren, Reid, Cameron, Layla, Presleigh, Andrew, Ainsley, and Samantha.
CSM (Ret) David Barber will be laid to rest September 1, 2018 at Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford TX.
