CW4 (Ret) Charles Ray Shaffer, “Chuck”, age 71, of Clarksville, TN passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at his home, with his loving wife by his side.
Celebration of Life with US Army Honors will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Marv Buchholz officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Chuck will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West at a later date.
Chuck entered this life on August 9, 1951, in Bakersfield, California to the late George and Sara Jo Bond Shaffer. He was a retired 160th SOAR Pilot from The United States Army, a flight instructor and worked Civil Service at Ft. Campbell. Following his military career, Chuck received his doctoral degree in theology and served as a pastor for many years. He loved shooting with his sons, performing magic shows for his grandchildren, and showering his pups with love and treats.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Judy Lynn Chaney Shaffer; sons, Christopher Lee Shaffer (Alisha), of Clarksville, TN, Brian Dale Opitz (Shelly), of North Carolina, and David Bradley Opitz (Stacy), of California; grandchildren, Riley, MacKenzie, Brycen, Lacey, Chase, and Logan. Chuck also leaves behind a half-brother in New York, and a sister in Clarksville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Pregnancy Center.
