John T. Leddy, Jr., retired Colonel and Doctor of Optometry, died Saturday, October 8th, 2016. Dr. Leddy was 87.
The Leddy family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12th at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. A graveside committal service with Full Army Honors will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 13th at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville.
Dr. Leddy was born in McComb, MS, on December 11, 1928, son of Pauline Kelley Leddy and John Leddy. He graduated from McComb High School, attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated from Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN, where he served on the Board of Trustees from 1995-2003. Dr. Leddy retired from the Army in July 1989 after 30 years active duty as an Optometrist. He served as Chief of Army Optometry for the last six years of his career at the Pentagon.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hyer Leddy, and survived by two daughters, Angela Leddy of Indianapolis IN and Paula Leddy Boudreau of Greenville SC; two sons, John T. Leddy III of Culpeper VA and Alan Andrew Leddy of Washington DC; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
After retiring from the Army in 1989 the Leddys chose Clarksville as their retirement location. John was a life member of the American Optometric Association and Armed Forces Optometric Society. He enjoyed golf and fishing, volunteering for Loaves and Fishes, and working as a volunteer at the voting polls.
He died peacefully at home surrounded by family after a swift battle with pancreatic cancer.
