COL Marcial Q Favila M.D. (RET), age 84, passed away during his sleep in Clarksville, TN on Wednesday, 18-May 2022, after a six-year long battle with prostate cancer.
Marcial was born in Rosario, La Union Philippines, in July 1937, the son of Sixta Quiñones Favila and the late Cresencio Villanueva Favila. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Aurea Parayno Favila and four children: Marlito Parayno Favila M.D. (Gina), Marsden Parayno Favila (Marvie), Maynard Mark Favila (Joyce) and Azalea Favila Budd (Ned); and his three sisters: Aurelia Favila Vidad, (Concordio), Zenaida Favila Mok (Bernard) and Teresita Favila Matsunaga M.D. (David) and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Over the past twenty-four years, he lovingly spent his free time with his eight grandchildren throughout the world: Marcus James Velasco Favila, Isaac Matthew Favila, Marlene Anne Velasco Favila, Emmalyn Patricia Budd, Naomi Elyse Joy Favila, Ryan Theodore Budd, Colin Marcial Budd and Matthew Mark Favila.
Aside from his family and friends, Marcial’s greatest devotion was to the field of medicine and the US Army. As a professionally published physician, Marcial was a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, Diplomate ABR – Nuclear Radiology and Diplomate American Board of Nuclear Medicine. His residencies at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco, CA coupled with a fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, shaped Marcial into a distinguished, well-qualified and respected radiologist.
These key experiences and qualifications allowed Marcial to provide an exceptional level of medical care to the US Army and wider US Military community. During 30 years of continuous active military service in the US Army Medical Corps, Marcial’s postings & combat assignments, as chief and/or staff, included: Fort Sam Houston, TX; Fort Jackson, SC; Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco, CA; Long Binh and Saigon, Vietnam; Fort Ord, CA; Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington DC; Fort Hood, TX; and Frankfurt Army and Landstuhl Regional Medical Centers, Germany. For his exceptional performance, Marcial was awarded several decorations including: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medals. After retirement from Active Duty, Marcial maintained his acumen by serving as a Government Service staff radiologist and physician (GS-15) for 18 years at Naval Hospital Great Lakes, IL and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY.
Over the years, Marcial has focused his support among several organizations, most notably the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) and Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Since 2005, he has also wholeheartedly supported Clarksville’s Filipino American community.
In accordance with Marcial's wishes, his remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in the Columbarium with full military honors rendered. The family would like to extend an invitation to former colleagues or close acquaintances from COL Favila's medical and/or military career postings to attend the ceremony scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery at 9 a.m. EST Monday, June 24, 2024. Those able to attend may assemble at the Family Parking Lot that morning approximately 8:30 a.m. EST.
