Charles William Poff, Sr. “Chuck”, a revered figure in the auto sales industry and a passionate duck hunter, has sadly passed away on April 29, 2024 at Tennova Healthcare while surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old.
Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Dr. Sam Parkes officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Born on October 2, 1939, to the late Cletus and Vera Chaplin Poff, Chuck led a multifaceted life filled with achievements and contributions. In his professional life, Chuck developed a successful career in auto sales, eventually owning his own dealership where he earned a reputation as a skilled and knowledgeable dealer. His dedication and expertise in the industry were admired by many. Following his retirement from the auto business at Motor Credit, Chuck found a new hobby in duck hunting, which became a beloved pastime for him. Beyond his professional endeavors, Chuck's involvement in various organizations showcased his commitment to service and community. As a Veteran of The United States Army, a former member of the Clarksville Jaycees, and a member of numerous associations including the Palmyra Masonic Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, and the Tennessee Used Car Association, Chuck exemplified his dedication to societal engagement.
For his third act, Chuck was instrumental in serving as the chairman of the road committee in the Eagle Rest community of Dover. His role in establishing many of the properties, roads, specifically Tanasi Trail, within the community reflected his leadership and civic-minded spirit.
Chuck's personality shone through in his love for grilling and barbequing. He not only enjoyed participating in BBQ competitions but also generously sponsored many organizations over the years, including men's softball teams and Clarksville Little League teams. Known for his strength, passion, and role as the leader of his family, Chuck cherished moments spent with loved ones at family gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Chip Poff, and great-grandson, Jonathan Atkins.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Betty Poff; children, Cindy (David) Edmondson, Cheryl Poff, Staf Orton, and Chad (Holly) Poff; grandchildren, Erika, Kyle (Amanda), Sydney, Roth, Conleigh, Aidan, Canaan, Court, Sydney Grace, and Sawyer; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Carly, Cora, Jones, and Sunny, and one great-great grandchild on the way. Chuck also leaves behind his brother, Howard (Beverly) Poff;brothers-in-law, Dr. Sam Parkes and Bill Parkes; the mothers of his grandchildren, Amy Orton and Dawn Ulrich, and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. Also left to remember his memory, his loving hunting companion and pup, SuzeQ.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Poff, Scott Poff, Kyle Kondwros, Roth VanDyke, Justin Lowe, Aidan Poff, Canaan Orton, and Court Poff. Honorary pallbearers will be Pierre Sanborn and David Mathews.
