Chief Eugene Keel

Chief Gordon Eugene Keel, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 while at his home in Port Royal.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 PM Monday, October 30, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Clarksville. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery with Clarksville Fire Rescue and Marine Corps Honors rendered. His family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Sunday at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and 11 AM until the hour of service Monday at First Baptist Church. Additionally, there will be a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Chief Keel entered into this life on December 20, 1929 in Stewart County, Tennessee to the late Chief Robert Gordon Keel and Mallie Vaughn Keel. Following graduation from Clarksville High School, Eugene enlisted in the
U.S. Marine Corps. He bravely served in the Korean War and among other awards was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart.
Following the legacy left by his father, Chief Keel joined Clarksville Fire Rescue and led a distinguished career, enjoying 47 years of public service to the community he so loved. He was appointed Fire Chief by the City of Clarksville in 1985 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1999. Chief Keel was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Clarksville Moose Lodge. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason, a past Commander in Chief of the VFW, and enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary S. Keel and step son, Ricky S. Winn. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Winn Keel; daughter, Veda Holt (Daniel); sister, Glenda Lewis (Ted); grandchildren, Chris Conatser (Stephanie) and Lisa Conatser; great grandchildren, Taylor Linder, Brady Conatser, and Cody Stephens; children by marriage, Randy Winn (Linda), Barry Winn (Melissa), Henry Winn (Betty), and Marcia Clark (Nathan); nine step grandchildren and fourteen step great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chief Mike Roberts, Danny Perry, Steve Miner, Ray Williams, Charles Ransdell, C.W. Stokes, Howell “Buff” Albright, and Vernie Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Moseley, Jack Vaughn, and members of the Clarksville Fire Rescue Honor Guard.
