MSG Cheryl Ann Tobin, age 48 of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away after a long struggle with cancer on December 31, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
Cheryl was born February 24, 1968 in Mountain View, California, the daughter of George Beekman and Diana Hunt Duckoff. She lived in both California and New Hampshire until she graduated from High School in 1986. After high school she enlisted into the United States Army as an 81E (Illustrator) at Fort Eutis, Virginia. She served a little more than two years on active duty and ETSed in 1989. At that time Cheryl enlisted in to the United States Army Reserves and was assigned to United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (USACAPOC), at Fort Bragg, North Carolina from 1989 until 2000. While assigned to USACAPOC she worked as a 71C (Executive Administrative Specialist) and later a 38A (Civil Affairs Specialist). In 2000 she was reassigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 350th Civil Affairs Command in Pensacola, Florida until 2002 when she finished her time in uniform. Her military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achieve Medal w/3 OLC, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, and Parachutist Badge. After Cheryl’s uniformed service was finished she continued to work for the Army at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky from 2001-2014. During this time Cheryl was diagnosed with carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma and it left her drained and unable to work anymore. Cheryl still pushed herself and tried to live her life to its fullest. Cheryl was a member of the Molly Stark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was awarded the honorary title of Kentucky Colonel for her outstanding support to the community. During this time she created a bucket list and completed a lot of the list, some of which were, dog sledding in northern Montana, celebrating New Year’s Eve in Times Square, visiting the Vatican in Rome, and meeting the Pope. Cheryl was one of the most optimistic, caring, and strong people in this world. She always looked at the glass half full. She saw the good in every person she met. She took care of all her family and friends no matter how bad she felt. She took on and fought cancer like a champ, making it through three tough years when the doctors only gave her six months to live. She tried to make sure she was a strong, positive, caring role model for her two beautiful children Lauren and Jon.
Survivors include her husband, James Tobin; daughter, Lauren Domzalski; son, Jonathan Domzalski; mother, Diana Duckoff; step father, Richard Duckoff; father, George Beekman; step mother, Bernie Beekman; brother, Craig Beekman; sister, Carole Beekman, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
