Charles Schmitt

March 17, 1953 — January 4, 2025

Clarksville

Charles Albert Schmitt, born on March 17, 1953, in Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away on January 4, 2025, in his hometown. A cherished figure in the lives of many, he leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be fondly remembered by family and friends alike.

Charles grew up in Clarksville, surrounded by the love of his mother, Margaret Sims, and his grandmother, Lois Sims, who both predeceased him. Their nurturing spirit greatly influenced his life and character. He went on to graduate from Clarksville High School in 1971. From his youth to present, Charles was full of life and laughter. Dancing was one of his very favorite things to do, especially during his yearly attendance at The Tye Dye Festival in Adams. He loved keeping up with football, basketball, and Nascar, but fellowship with family was his favorite activity.

In addition to his mother and grandmother, Charles was preceded by his brother, Emmett Lee Schmitt. He is survived by his beloved sisters, Yvonne Traylor, Annette McWhorter, and Yvette Barton, who have shared countless memories with him, forging bonds that only siblings understand. Together, they created a tapestry of family love and support, which Charles cherished deeply. In their hearts, he will always hold a special place as a devoted brother. Other survivors include his nieces and nephews, Shawn Benson, Tim Benson, Thomas Higgins, Daniel Sackett, Chris Higgins, Buddy Gainous, Kathy Brickner, and Rebecca McWhorter, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family and friends.

Visitation with the family will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will begin at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest privately at a later date alongside his mother at Riverview Cemetery.

Charles's presence was felt by all who knew him. As we remember him, let us celebrate his remarkable spirit and the mark he has left on the lives of those around him. His legacy will continue to endure through the love of his surviving family and friends.
