Billy Fay Austin was born at home to Nellie Lorene Austin and Benjamin Franklin Austin in Indian Mound, Tennessee on April 6, 1940. Billy married Mildred Diane Smith September 3, 1961 in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Shiloh, Tennessee.
Immediate family included their children: Brandon Fay Austin and Darla Nelle (Austin) Lawson; son-in-law, Kenneth Lawson; and grandchildren, Billy Jack Lawson and Neely Lawson.
He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ellen Marie (Sykes) Smith;
Brother, Bobby Frank Austin; father-in-law, Leslie “Cush” Smith; and brother-in-law, Anthony “Tony” Jerome Smith. He loved each of them dearly.
Thrilled by children, hugs, pets (especially his cherished miniature poodle, “Fluffy”), fishing, turnip greens, and his powder-blue 1971 Ford Ranger truck, Billy shared his love broadly and generously. Many enjoyed his Christmas gifts of fudge and pecan pies. Strangers he met with welcome and cordial conversation, friends with generosity and grace.
Billy resided from age 15 until his death in the structure he built into a split-level home. His employment resume included the Clarksville downtown H.G.Hills; Cooper & Martin; Tennessee Frontier Meats; IGA of Guthrie, KY; and in 2001 he retired after 20 years with the UCAR Carbon Company.
Reverend Jonathan Miller will be presiding over the graveside service at the Fairview Cemetery in Indian Mound, Tennessee on February 8, 2021 @ 1:00 PM.
