Betty Sue Ashby Hayes, age 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Hopewell Baptist Church, Cunningham, Tn. with Rev. David Mackens officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the church, and again on Sunday from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Mrs. Hayes was born March 18, 1931 in Madisonville, Ky. to the late
Rev. Lloyd W. Ashby, Sr. and Jennie Mae Ewing Ashby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Van Odell Hayes, and brother, Woodson Ashby.
She is survived by her son Dr. Ashley L. Hayes and wife Tina of Linden,Tn.; grandchildren, Cortney and Adam Roberts, Keri and Travis Prater, Beth and Josh Warren, and Denny and Debbie Dabbs, seven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren children; nephews, Timmy (Nora) Ashby and Steve (Cindy) Ashby and Niece Tessa Ashby.
She was a Charter member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for the Ladies Class for many years. She was also the church pianist and organist for 64 years. She was retired from the State of Tn. Dept. of Human Services.
Pallbearers will be Timmy, Steve, Brandon, Steven, Brian, Levi and Caleb Ashby, Brandon Chambers, Devin Kyle and Roger Baggett.
Honorary Pallbearers are Travis and Trevin Prater, Joshua, Landon and Asher Warren, Phillip, Jason and Earl Hayes Jr. Denny Dabbs and Austin Dabbs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, Cunningham, TN 37052.
