Betty Tinkle Cotten, age 90, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2016 at Signature Healthcare of Erin, following a brief illness.
She was born on May 11, 1926, in Dyersburg, TN, daughter of Albert Freeman Tinkle and Jimmie Pace Tinkle. Betty was a life-long resident of Memphis, TN, prior to her move to Tennessee Ridge, TN, eleven years ago.
Betty was an active member of Oakhaven United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN, and Erin United Methodist Church Erin, TN. She enjoyed bowling with the Aviation Angels in Memphis and participating in events at the J.D. Lewis Senior Center in Erin. She loved reading, working in her yard, and spending time with family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Cotton, her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Lynn (Mike) Mobley of Tennessee Ridge, TN, her son, Charles A. Cotton of Durham, NC, and her daughter Carol (Mark) Gstohl of New Orleans, LA. In addition to her children, she leaves behind six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Her family is honoring her wishes to be cremated and will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be made to Erin United Methodist Church, the J.D. Lewis Senior Center, or a charity of your choice.
