Betty Barnes

Betty Evelyn Barnes, age 94 of Erin, TN, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her residence.
A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the chapel of Nave Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Gray Barnes Cemetery.
The Barnes family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday afternoon.
Betty entered this life on February 16, 1924 in Erin, TN, daughter to the late James Leo and Florence Minnie Kingsmill McMillan. After graduating from Houston County High School, Betty furthered her Education by graduating with a B.S. Degree in Education from Austin Peay State University. Betty was a passionate educator where she served her community while focusing on math and special education. Betty loved to teach Sunday school, and was a faithful member of both Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and Arlington Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Eugene “Gene” Barnes; son, Jed Barnes; brother, Donald McMillan; sisters, Bernice Sykes, and Kassie Ward.
Survivors include her loving children, Carol Ferguson (Ray), Vicky Calderon, Amy Barnes,Jock Barnes, Deborah Fish, Jacob Barnes, Leona Smith (Jim), Margene Smith (Tom), Jonathan Barnes (Teresa); brother, Bobby McAskill; and sister, Minnie Travis. Betty also leaves behind twenty eight grandchildren, fifty three great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and serving as honorary pallbearers will be her son in laws.
