Bernice Sanders, age 95, of Clarksville passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Grace Healthcare.
She was born August 15, 1920 to Floyd Morrison and Lottie Booth. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Sanders, son Maurice Eugene Sanders, brothers; Frank, Herschel, Cecil, Paul, and Glenn, sisters; Mary and Sarah.
Bernice had an endearing love for her husband Bob and son Maurice. Bob passed away in 1968 and then Bernice focused her love and support to her son with Cerebral Palsy. She took great pains in making sure he had the best care and she never let his disability defeat him. Bernice encouraged him to do whatever he was capable of and Maurice lived a full life, dying at the age of 72.
What also brought her great joy was quilting, and keeping family and friends supplied with sourdough bread, caramel and coconut cakes.
She worked as a Labor and Delivery Nurse for 35 years at Memorial Hospital. Bernice joined Hickory Point United Methodist Church in Fredonia in 1934. She was the oldest living member. She loved her church and enjoyed cooking for the members and supporting fundraisers for anything the church needed.
Bernice is survived by her sister Betty Carpenter of Galveston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
