Barbara Ann Wellington was born on August 27, 1943, to the late Willie Shaw and Daisy Hardy in Newport News, VA. Barbara departed this life at the age of 78 on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Tennova Hospital in Clarksville, TN after battling sarcoidosis for 14 years.
Barbara was a faithful member of the City of David Christian Center in Clarksville, TN where she was one of the mothers of the church. Prior to joining the City of David, she was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church of Linden, NJ where she was also one of the mothers of the church, served on the Nurses Unit, and participated in annual scholarship fashion shows.
She attended Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ where she was active in weightlifting, gymnastics, track and softball. Barbara was a homemaker for many years. She held house cleaning jobs that allowed her to be with her children when they came home from school. She then was also an assembly worker for years at Lermer Packaging of Garwood, NJ.
Barbara had an untouched humble loving spirit; she loved the word of God and applied it to her own life...Humility, Faith, Love Unconditionally, Forgive and Give Ungrudgingly. She was not only called mom by her own children she was also called mom by so many. Her home was the gathering place for sleepovers, family game night, holiday dinners and so much more. She would sit up all night just to prepare for the gathering then stay up to entertain the next day. She enjoyed spending time with & loving on her family and traveling.
Barbara is survived by her children to cherish her memory, Daisy Johnson (John), Alfred Jackson (Ann), Andrew Jackson, Debbie Jackson (Willie), Sheila Wellington, and Michael Wellington, 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, Brother-in-law Henry Wellington, Sister-in-law Doris Griffin, two dearest friends Lottie Benjamin and Gloria Dixon, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Shaw and Daisy Hardy; husband, Robert Wellington, Sr.; son, Robert Wellington, Jr.; daughter, Michelle Wellington; grandson, Tyquan Wellington; Grandmother, Matilda McNeil Jackson; brother, Norman Jackson, Sr.; sister, Gayle Shaw, her favorite aunt Elease Walker, and aunts & uncles.
