Barbara Thompson

February 3, 1932 — January 17, 2018

Barbara Thompson, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with the Rev. Felts Dent officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Barbara's family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Barbara was born on February 3, 1932 in Trenton, Kentucky to Clifton D. Camp and Virginia McElwain Camp. Growing up on the farm, Twin Cypress, in Trenton, Barbara enjoyed horseback riding and playing tennis. She later attended college at Murray State University and later transferred to Austin Peay State University. At Austin Peay, she met Robert Thompson and they married in 1951. Robert and Barbara lived 10 years in Lexington, Kentucky while Robert worked as office manager for J. Stephen Watkins Engineering (this was one of the engineering firms contracted for construction of Fort Campbell). They returned to Clarksville when Robert became a partner of Merritt Building Material.
Barbara was blessed with the ability to teach the Bible. She began teaching classes in Mrs. Henry Pickering's home and later she was asked by the Rev. Curry to teach the wives of Fort Campbell soldiers. She then regularly taught Bible classes at First Baptist Church for many years.
Barbara's love of history led to her teaching at Clarksville High School where she began the Advanced Placement program in social studies. Later, she was asked to supervise student teachers for Austin Peay State University and to teach in the Department of Education. In 1979, she opened The Fashion Shoppe and enjoyed selling ladies apparel. She always had beautifully wrapped packages and festive events to support the shop.
One of Barbara and Robert's favorite projects was restoring an older home, circa 1832, in Trenton, KY. The name of the home was Sandidge (names after Dr. Sandidge Dickinson) and Barbara thoroughly enjoyed recreating the history of the home and its surroundings. They lived in the home (which was listed on the State Historical Register) until they moved back to Clarksville and Robert became the Accounts and Budgets Director for Montgomery County.
She was a charter member of the Modern Women's Club, member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery County Historical Society, and a member of First Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, and always loved reading...especially historical books!
Robert preceded Barbara in death on June 9, 2009. Barbara is survived by their three children: Debbie Hilaski (Richard), Beth Bruning (Tom), and Allison Clouser (Randy). The surviving grandchildren are Jessica Guzman (Carlos), Jon Clouser (Kellie Tipton), Robert Clouser, Will Bruning, and Allison Bruning. Also, she has two great grandchildren, Diego Guzman and Veda Clouser and brother, Clifton Camp of Florida.
Pallbearers will be Randy Clouser, Jon Clouser, Robert Clouser, Tom Bruning, Will Bruning, and Phillip Krug.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Medical Ministry. Condolences may be made online at NaveFuneralHomes.com.
