The funeral will be held at 11 am, Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at 2nd Mile Church, Clarksville, TN. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 5, from 3-6 pm at 2nd Mile and Saturday, 10 am until the hour of the service.
Barbara was born on July 30, 1934 in Chickasha, OK to the late James Cullis and Alma Frances (Hyatt) Smith. She was a devoted wife and mother and served seven years as a medical missionary in South Korea alongside her husband. Whether in Sunday School at First Baptist, Clarksville, or as a Bible Study Fellowship Teaching Leader her two greatest joys were teaching others about Jesus and being a church pianist. 2nd Mile Church, where her son is the founding pastor, was her last church home, but she was also instrumental in helping to establish Christ Presbyterian Church in Clarksville. She loved flowers and being a member of Les Candides Garden Club. She was a friend to many and an encouragement to all. The last ten years of her life she exemplified strength, courage and remained joyful despite her physical limitations.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Hampton. Survivors include her sisters, Frances Shearwood (Bob) Coughran and Martha (Bo) Brown. Her children include: Cal (Diana) Hampton, Susan (Shan) Smith, Dee Ann (Mike) Pickering, Ginny (Dwight Jr.) Dickson and Becky (Dan) Haynes. She leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks go to her recent caregivers: Carole Thompson, Diana Hampton, Kelly Allbert, and Janelle Parham.
