Arthur Clayton “Bill” Brown, Jr., 77, died on September 18, 2013 at his home in Charleston, SC. Bill was born September 6, 1936 in Detroit, MI, but was raised in Tennessee.
He graduated from Erin High School, Erin, TN in 1954. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Memphis State University in 1958, he served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He earned his Master of Arts Degree from Austin Peay State College, Clarksville, TN in 1968. Bill taught in the Michigan Public School System until his retirement in 1989. He has lived in Charleston, SC since 1990.
His parents, Arthur and Alice Brown preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Phil Brown and wife Kay; niece Julie Ailshie and husband Greg; nephews Dustin Brown and wife Mary; great nephews Clayton Ailshie and Reed Brown; and great niece Elsie Brown, all of Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are two god-children, Emily Moy and Jon Moy of Michigan. Bill is also survived by his partner of 25 years, James Collins of Charleston, SC.
A visitation will be held at Nave Funeral Home, Erin TN Sunday, Sept 22, 2013 from 6 - 8pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, Sept 23, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Seaton Catholic Church in Tennessee Ridge, TN with Father Michael Baltrus officiating with burial to follow at McDonald Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Charleston, SC at a later date.
