Anne Cecilia McDermott, devoted mother, daughter, sister, friend, and aunt, died Friday, July 29, at her Clarksville home with her daughter, Cecilia, and her family by her side.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Sango Cemetery.
Anne was born at Fort Rucker, AL, on July 2, 1970 to Colonel (Ret.) Francis P. (Pat) and Harriett McDermott and siblings Mary Yarnall (White Plains, NY), Patrick (Tampa, FL), and John (Lawrence, KS.)
Anne was a 1988 graduate of Clarksville High School and obtained a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from Austin Peay State University and a Master’s in Chemistry from Tennessee State University (with a 4.0 GPA.) She had an uncanny ability to talk comfortably with anyone as if a close friend. She had a warm, giving, and generous heart, a playful sense of humor, and a uniquely quick, but not biting, wit. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures such as reading and learning, chatting with friends and family, and, especially, playing with her nieces and nephews. Anne was the kind of person who listened and remembered everything you said and always asked how you were doing. Anne loved all people but had a special way with children and young adults. She adored being a teacher and was selected as Teacher of the Year at Pope John Paul II Catholic School in Hendersonville, TN.
Anne is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Marie Lavoie, her parents, siblings, nine nieces and nephews who thought Anne was the greatest Aunt, ever, Cecilia’s father, Camille Lavoie, and best friend, Darlene Harding.
Anne's family would like to thank Tennova Hospice for the compassionate care they gave Anne at the end of her life. Arrangements are in the care of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, NaveFuneralHomes.com.
