Alexis B. Collins, age 80 of Clarksville, went to be with the Lord Monday January 7, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday January 12, 2013 at Madison Street United Methodist Church Chapel with the Revs. Cliff Wright and Sung Nam Kim officiating. Music will be provided by Shelly Gray. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday January 12, 2013 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Alexis was born November 11, 1932 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Alexis Collins, Sr. and Cleotis McDonough Collins, he was a Supervisor for Chicago Transit Authority, a US Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Elmhurst, IL and locally a member of Madison St. United Methodist Church. He was a Lifetime member of Ancient Free & Accepted Mason Elmhurst Lodge #941 now located in Bensenville, IL, Past President of Gateway Health Aux. 2002-2004, Honored with a Scholarship in his name “Alexis Collins Continuing Education Scholarship”, Past President of Willard Blue Sunday School Class @ Madison St. United Methodist Church, founder of the original Stephen Ministry @ Madison St. United Methodist Church in early 2000. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Collins and a sister, Betty Collins.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Virginia Orr Mansfield Collins; step-son, Michael Mansfield and his wife, Relna of Farmington, MI; brother, Walter Collins of St. Cloud, FL; sister, Marian Harvey of Chicago, IL; and step-grandchildren, Marina, Joshua, David and Christina.
Pallbearers will be, Dr. John Leddy, Bill Gray, Joe Evans, Robert Pickford, Bobby Yingling and Mitchell Leslie. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Willard Blue Sunday School Class.
