Willard Roaf Jr.
Willard L. Roaf, Jr., age 92, of Clarksville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Palmyra Health Care Center.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Clarksville First Baptist Church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
The Roaf family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Willard entered into this life on September 14, 1925 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to the late Willard and Cora Fowler Roaf. At the height of WWII and at the age of 17, spurred by the desire to defend world liberty against tyranny, Willard enlisted in the US Navy with the approval of his father. He served with the elite Seabees in the South Pacific and bravely participated in the invasions of the Philippines and New Guinea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. For his courageous efforts Willard was ultimately awarded 3 Battle Stars. He honorably discharged from the Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class.
Back to civilian life, Willard worked for over 41 years as a die cutter for Reed and Barton Corporation. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and before moving to Clarksville, he was an ordained deacon and youth leader. He also enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout Troop Master.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christine S. Roaf.
Survivors include his children, G. Willard Roaf and his wife Margie Lou of Byfield, MA and Claudia Erb and her husband Ron of Clarksville. He was the grandfather of Jeremiah Erb, Jason Roaf, Gregory Roaf, Joel Erb, and Bradford Roaf and great grandfather to Sadie Roaf, Lucy Roaf, Lorelei Erb, and Lewis Roaf, Charles Roaf, George Roaf, and Samuel Roaf.
