Obituary for MSGT (Ret) Bynum Carter Gibson

MSGT (Ret) Bynum Carter Gibson, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home in Indian Mound.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Full Army Honors will be rendered. Bynum's family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home Sunday. He will be laid to rest at Grove City Cemetery, Grove City, Ohio, with VFW and American Legion Honors.
Bynum entered into this life on September 29, 1924 in Winchester, Kentucky, son of the late Robert and Polly Mabry McIntosh. As a young man, Bynum entered into service with the US Navy. After a couple years as a seaman, he went on to serve some 30 years in the US Army. Bynum was a part of the "greatest generation", having selflessly fought against tyranny and oppression during WWII. He went on to serve combat roles in both the Korean War and Vietnam. Later in his military career, Bynum served for 15 years as a high school JROTC instructor in Germany. He was a life member of several organizations including the American Legion #0238, VFW #11160, the Forty & Eight Veterans Assoc., and the Military Order of the Cootie.
Bynum was preceded in death by his wives, Klara Hartig Gibson (d.1969) and Eleanor Weimer Gibson (d.1992). Survivors include his children, Robert J. Gibson (Jackie), Stephen R. Gibson, Rose Pogue (Mike), and Susan J. Gray; grandchildren, Crystal Barber (Jeff), Robert Gray, Atasha Bowman (Joshua), Kimberly Byers (Rick), Shawn D. Pogue, and Michelle Schermerhorn (Wes); great grandchildren, Hailey, Brooklyn, Caleb, Timbra, Logan, Lyric, Ken, Abigail, Layton, Jack, Mickee, and Mandy; and his special friend, Debbie Carroll.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Condolences may be made online at NaveFuneralHomes.com.
